JNU row: Clean chit to Kanhaiya Kumar in Delhi Government’s inquiry
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government’s inquiry into the JNU event on February 9 has exonerated students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar.

Adistrict magistrate’s report released on Thursday said “nothing adverse could be found” against Kanhaiya, but it suggested “further investigation” over the role of Umar Khalid. “Nothing adverse could be found against Kanhaiya. No witness or video available to me could support allegations against him,” said the report by New Delhi district magistrate.

The report, however, pointed a finger at Khalid. “Umar Khalid was visible in many videos. His support for the role of Kashmir and Afzal Guru is known and he was the organiser of the event. His role needs to be further investigated,” it said.

Specifically discussing the role of Kanhaiya, the report mentions the fact that “none of the witness” admitted to having seen Kanhaiya giving “anti-national speech”.

“Possibly, Kanhaiya was called when programme was not allowed to be conducted or being disrupted by another group. He came and tried to mediate. But I have confirmed from the Internal Enquiry Committee of JNU just before submitting this report, none has said that anyone has heard him say anything antinational,” the report said.

It also mentioned that OP Yadav “another manager” heard “only a few words and they were something related to cow”.

The report called Khalid “main organiser” who went ahead with the programme despite objections. The only two slogans attributed to Khalid in the report are: “Kashmir ki janata sangharsh karo, hum tumhare saath hain. Kashmir ki mahilaon sangharsh karo, hum tumhare saath hain.”
