JMM decides to withdraw support to Koda
JMM on Sunday decided to withdraw support to the Madhu Koda-led coalition government in Jharkhand and explore the possibility of making its supremo Shibu Soren the chief minister with the support of Independents.
The decision was taken after the crucial JMM legislators' meeting today here. The party's Parliamentary board is likely to endorse the decision.
"We have taken the decision to withdraw the support from the state government," JMM general secretary Hemlal Murmu said.
Another senior party functionary Dilip Chatterjee said that JMM will apprise Governor Syed Sibtey Razi of the developments in the evening.
However, Chatterjee hoped that Soren will form the government as Independents will back him.
JMM has seventeen MLAs in 81-member House. The withdrawal will reduce the Koda government to a minority which is surviving on the support of 17 JMM MLAs, 9 Congress MLAs -- including Speaker --, 7 RJD MLAs and rest Independent and rebels MLAs from different parties.
In 2005, Soren's attempt to become the chief minister failed after he could not muster a majority on the floor of the house in a week after he was sworn-in.
