SRINAGAR: Protesting the alleged violation of human rights in the state and continued detention of the political activists, chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Amanullah group) on Monday began a day-long hunger strike.
"I am on a hunger strike to invite the attention of the international rights bodies to grave human rights violations taking place in Jammu and Kashmir," Mir said.
He also criticised the international rights bodies for their failure to stop rights violations in the state and get the political activists released, who are languishing in jails even after the state high court had quashed their detentions.
Expressing his unhappiness over the slow progress of Indo-Pak talks, Mir said, "the process of talks between the two countries has almost ended."
He asked the international community to intervene for initiation of a meaningful and purposeful dialogue between India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue.
Leaders from different political organizations expressing their solidarity also joined Mir at the residency road.
