J&K border hamlet gets security cover after fence re-alignment

JAMMU: In an effort to stop intrusion in the state, the Army has re-aligned the fence along the Line of Control ( LoC) at Chapriyan village in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, giving the residents an "inherent" sense of security.

"The Army has reached another important milestone in its constant efforts to combat terrorism and restoration of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir as army re-aligned border fencing to provide security cover to Chapriyan LoC hamlet," PRO Defence, Co R P Palta said.

Chapriyan village of Tehsil Mandi in district Poonch, was one of the few villages in the vicinity of the Line of Control, located ahead of the LoC Fence along Indo-Pak border.

"By re-aligning the fence beyond the village, the Army has met the long standing demand of the residents and also gave them an inherent sense of security", he said.

The LoC Fence was constructed by the Indian Army in 2004 to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir(PoK).

"Due to terrain and security constraints, some villages like Chapriyan were left ahead of the fence, in its original alignment", he said, adding that this made these villages vulnerable to terrorist activities, and imposed restrictions on the routes and timings of movement of the villagers, across the fence.
