J&K BJP identifies constituencies across UT for electoral gains

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP has identified some constituencies across the Union Territory to focus for the electoral gains and is likely to announce the incharges for these constituencies soon especially in Kashmir Valley, where the party has not won a single assembly seat till now.

The BJP held a key organizational meeting of the office bearers here in Srinagar on August 23 during which the party leadership discussed various upcoming programs of the party including the strategy to reach out to the voters in Kashmir and Pir Panjal region of Jammu.

“We have to focus on the constituencies where we could not win seats in the last assembly elections in 2024. We will be formally announcing the incharges for these areas soon. Our focus is to reach as many people as we can and ensure that the development reaches at the grassroot level,” a senior BJP leader told ET.


The party is focussing on Rajouri-Poonch area of Jammu, where BJP managed to get over 2.61 lakh votes across the constituencies in the last elections but could not win a single seat.

“We have focus areas across J&K. We will be focussing on 20 to 25 seats in Kashmir Valley, especially in Shopian, Rajpora and Gurez, where we got a good number of votes in the last elections. In Jammu our focus will be Rajouri-Poonch and Doda Ramban, where we could not win some of the seats in the last elections,” BJP’s state general secretary Ashok Koul told ET. Koul addressed a gathering in Shopian on Monday, which he said witnessed an overwhelming response from the people.

Koul said that the party would be protesting on September 2 outside the secretariat in the summer capital of Srinagar majorly demanding immediate Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections and showing mirror to the ruling National Conference government for its continued failure to fulfill the promises made during the last assembly elections in 2024.

The BJP in J&K has also finalised the schedule and framework for its ‘Modi@25’ celebrations, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life since October 7, 2001, when took oath as the chief minister of Gujarat.

The party has also planned blood donation camps, seminars and grassroot reachout programs to find out if any individual or family has been left out from Modi’s schemes rolled out during his tenures as the PM. These programs will be held from September 17 to October 17 marking the ‘Seva Sankalp Mahotsav’ to commemorate the birthday of Modi.
