NEW DELHI: Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi today met President Pranab Mukherjee and sought his intervention in checking the "worsening" law and order situation in the state besides a host of others issues.

Heading a delegation of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) leaders, he informed the President about a number of recent incidents of crime to allege that Bihar was "in the grip of criminals" since Nitish Kumar returned to power.

The memorandum submitted to the President said "fear" prevails among people as even MLAs and MPs belonging to the ruling alliance of JD(U) and RJD are involved in unlawful activities.

"The President needs to intervene in the matter to restore confidence among people. The state administration has become dysfunctional and Bihar is in the grip of criminals. Crime graph is rising. The ruling JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance is working to create a same sense of fear among people," the memorandum by HAM, a BJP ally, said refererring to the alleged lawlessness during RJD rule in the state.

Former Bihar minister Mahachandra Prasad Singh and party spokesperson Danish Rizwan were also in the delegation.
