Jindal Steel signs MoU with Jharkhand govt to set up ITI

The Jharkhand government has inked an MoU with Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) for setting up an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) near Dumka.

RANCHI: The Jharkhand government has inked an MoU with Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) for setting up an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) near Dumka, virtually on the heels of a similar pact with Tata Steel.

The state government has provided the building and other infrastructure spread over 2 acres at Godda, while JSPL will look after manpower and other running costs. The total intake will be 150 and the first batch is likely to start from next February. The building has been given to the company on a lease for 30 years.

JSPL has inked an MoU with the Jharkhand government for setting up an integrated steel plant of 6 mtpa and a 1500 mw power plant. It has already taken possession of 551 acres of the erstwhile Bihar Alloys Steel Ltd (BASL), at Patratu, under the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand.

The MoU was signed by state labour director Kapildeo Tiwari and JSPL's head (strategy) Sanjeev Purushottam Sahani in the presence of state development commissioner S.K.Chowdhary and other key officials of the company and the state government, at Nepal House secretariat this afternoon.

Speaking to ET, Mr Sahani said eight modules will be taught in the proposed ITI. These are fitter, electrician, welding, motor mechanic, COPA, mechanical draftsman, carpentry, plumbing and surveryor. Efforts are being made for getting the courses affiliated by National Council for Vocational Training.

About 25% of the seats will be filled through a state level entrance examination, and the remaining 75% by a separate test conducted by JSPL. However, as per the provisions of the MoU, all students have to be from Jharkhand only, said Mr Chowdhary.
