Jindal kicks off Louisiana governorship campaign
Republican Congressman Bobby Jindal formally kicked off his campaign for governor of Louisiana recently in Baton Rouge.
He said his first major action if elected governor would be to move to schedule a special legislative session aimed at passage of tougher ethics laws.
Jindal also rebuffed questions about US Senator David Vitter’s admitted involvement with an escort service in Washington, DC, that federal prosecutors claim was a prostitution ring. Vitter, R-La, had been expected to campaign for Jindal throughout the state.
“We addressed that,” Jindal said, referring to a two-sentence statement his office released earlier in which Jindal expressed “disappointment” in Vitter’s actions, and said he was praying for the senator and his family. “Today is about where we go for Louisiana,” Jindal said.
The primary election will be held October 20. A runoff, if needed, will be November 17.
“We are not a poor state. We’ve simply had poor leadership,” Jindal stated. He criticised state lawmakers for failing to pass a Bill that would have required elected officials to disclose their finances and outline how they make their money.
