Jharkhand to implement R&R policy by Dec

Jharkhand will finally have a new rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) policy in place by December this year.

JAMSHEDPUR: Jharkhand will finally have a new rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) policy in place by December this year. While talking to the press here on Wednesday, chief minister Madhu Koda said: “The new R&R policy has been formulated and is ready to be imple-mented.” This would to some extent address the problem of displacement in the state. The new policy guarantees assured income to landowners, who will have to sacrifice their land for mega industrial projects in Jharkhand.

Mr Koda also said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for Mittal Steel’s proposed 12 million tonne integrated steel plant in Jharkhand will soon be reviewed. He said: “Till date, the new government has had no talks with Mittal Steel. Discussions are yet to be held and the MoU will have to be reviewed.”

“There have been some changes after the new government assumed power in Jharkhand. All the projects need to be commissioned in a time-bound manner. Hence, all MoUs will be examined. No MoU till now has been rejected by my government. We’ll decide on the rejection only after the evaluation,” he added.

Mr Koda assured that his government would bring in new policies conducive to industries in Jharkhand so that new projects can be implemented without delay.
