Jharkhand political crisis: CM Hemant Soren wins trust vote in Assembly​

Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Monday won trust vote in the special one-day Jharkhand Assembly Session amid political unrest in the state.

48 MLAs, out of the total 81 members, voted in favour of confidence motion tabled by Soren.

He alleged that the BJP was attempting to destabilise democratically elected governments in states not ruled by it, as he tabled a confidence motion in the assembly.


Soren also claimed that his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma indulged in "purchase" of Jharkhand MLAs.

"The saffron party is trying to destabilise democratically elected governments in non-BJP ruled states... The Assam CM had also attempted to purchase Jharkhand legislators," PTI quoted Soren as saying in the assembly, amid protests by opposition members, who trooped into the well of the House, shouting slogans.

Soren alleged that the BJP was trying to create "a civil war-like situation" in the country by fueling riots to win elections.

He had earlier in the day said in the assembly that opposition BJP's "attempt to poach MLAs" had prompted the move for a confidence motion.

The session was called after the Jharkhand Cabinet recently approved the motion to hold a special Assembly session. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) MLAs staying in Raipur resort flew back to Ranchi on Sunday to attend this special session.

Notably, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and its allies shifted their MLAs to a resort in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh last week amid fears of poaching.

Sources said those who went to Raipur include 13 from Congress including four ministers and 18 MLAs of JMM.

Soon after the return of the MLAs from Raipur, CM Soren met them at the circuit house.

The legislators spend the night at the circuit house and will departed at 10 am in the morning for a one-day session at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.
