Jharkhand govt announces Shiv Basant as new CS
Jharkhand government announced Mr Shiv Basant as the new chief secretary. He will replace the present chief secretary, Mr AK Basu, who is due to retire on Monday.

The Jharkhand government on Saturday announced Mr Shiv Basant as the new chief secretary (CS). He will replace the present chief secretary, Mr AK Basu, who is due to retire on Monday.
An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 1976 batch, Mr Basant is at present posted as chairperson of
Jharkhand State Finance Commission. His appointment will become effective from September 1. A notification to this effect was issued by the state department of personnel.
His wife Sunila Basant, who is one of the three advisors to governor K Sankarnarayanan, has resigned, said a source, though it has not been made official till filing of this report. The source added that Mr Wilfred Lakra, a retired IAS officer of 1973 batch, Chhattisgarh cadre, is tipped to replace her. Mr Lakra is at present member of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).
According to the official, Ms Basant's resignation has been accepted by the union home ministry. She is likely to be appointed as the chief information commissioner (CIC) of Jharkhand. The name of Ms Basant, a retired IAS officer of 1970 batch of Jharkhand cadre, was in fact recommended for the post of CIC by the then chief minister Madhu Koda in June last year, but the Raj Bhavan kept the recommendation in abeyance and in the meantime, she was appointed as advisor to the governor when Presidents Rule was imposed in January this year.
There were many names doing the rounds for the coveted chief secretarys post. Mr T Nandkumar is the seniormost IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre, who is at present union agriculture secretary, but he refused to return to Ranchi. Another senior IAS officer AK Chugh, the seniormost IAS officer working in Jharkhand, of the 1974 batch, was also in the race for the post, but the state government picked a more junior officer for the post.

Ms Basant had already tendered her resignation following positive indications that her husband would be made the chief secretary. And, on Saturday, the state government officially announced Mr Shiv Basant as the new chief secretary.Download
