NEW DELHI: In a big political push in western UP, the Yogi Adityanath government has completed the process of the land acquisition for the Noida International airport at Jewar. Now, the focus is on the construction of the airport and the “rehabilitation and resettlement” of the families affected by it. R&R process is expected to take about one-and-a-half-year.

A major part of the mega project is expected to be completed before the 2022 assembly elections in UP. With rumblings within the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), western UP has become all the more important for the ruling BJP.

The mega project is not only supposed to reduce the load on Delhi’s IGI airport, but also pave the way for the economic growth of the areas, particularly Mathura and Agra, which are prominent tourist destinations. Besides, there is also hope for fresh employment generation in this region. It would be the third airport in the NCR region. The acquired land has been transferred to Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority on behalf of the government.
