Jethmalani wants to be special public prosecutor in 2G trial

Ram Jethmalani, has offered to become special public prosecutor in the 2G scam case in which former minister A Raja, former telecom officials and corporate biggies are accused.

NEW DELHI: Arguably the best criminal lawyer, Ram Jethmalani, has offered to become the special public prosecutor in the 2G spectrum scam case in which former telecom minister A Raja, former telecom officials and corporate biggies are accused.

Known for his acumen in finding loopholes in the prosecution cases – as he did in the Indira Gandhi assassination and Bofors cases — Jethmalani said he has refused many influential accused who offered him crores of rupees to defend them hoping to become the special public prosecutor.

He knows every trick that the accused would use to derail the trial and attempt to discredit the prosecution case. Now, he is ready to turn the tables in the 2G scam, provided the government agrees.

"I have spoken to Attorney General G E Vahanvati and offered my services. I have refused to appear for at least six accused who offered crores of rupees and had placed signed blank cheques on my table. I want to offer my services to nail the corrupt in 2G scam," he told TOI on Wednesday.
