Jet Airways flight grounded in Toronto over bomb threat

A Jet Airways flight leaving Toronto was grounded for over six hours following a bomb threat call just hours before its scheduled departure, Canadian officials confirmed on Friday.

NEW DELHI: A Jet Airways flight leaving Toronto was grounded for over six hours following a bomb threat call just hours before its scheduled departure, Canadian officials confirmed on Friday.

The Jet Airways flight 225, which was on its way from Toronto's Pearson Airport to Chennai via Europe, was grounded on Monday night after the Canadian police got an anonymous threat over telephone that a bomb had been placed inside the plane.

Following a thorough check, however, the police declared the threat as a hoax.

Canadian officials, speaking to the press earlier in the day, said the flight finally took off along with the passengers on Tuesday, a day after its scheduled departure.

Confirming the incident, a Jet spokesperson said the passengers were taken care of by the airline and provided with accommodation.

Bomb threats to Indian companies operating in Canada along with government-owned Air India were routine in the mid-1980's, according to the evidence presented at the recent Air India bombing inquiry in Ottawa.
