New Delhi: The JDU is gearing up for its national convention on Sunday, when its 60-member executive team will meet in the first half of the day and members of the national council will meet in the second half at the party headquarters in Patna. This will be preceded by a meeting of its national officebearers on the previous day.

Ahead of the upcoming elections in states including West Bengal and Assam, the JDU is expected to take a call on its participation in these polls and expansion of the party nationally. JDU leaders will also discuss the not-so-good show in the recent Bihar polls, in which the party won only 43 seats in the 243-member state assembly, said party members. Chief minister Nitish Kumar, who is the national president of the JDU, may share his views on the party’s performance, they said.

“We have organisational bases in states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal. In Arunachal Pradesh, the party has seven MLAs. We have also participated in the local body polls in Arunachal Pradesh. In Nagaland, the party has one MLA.” said Afaque Ahmad Khan, national general secretary of the JDU. The party also wants to discuss the current national political scenario at its national executive meet, said Khan. “The party leaders will discuss JDU’s role in national politics in the current political scenario,” he said.
