BENGALURU: The JD(S) on Monday threw its weight behind West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with both its national president H.D.Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H.D.Kumaraswamy taking exception to the CBI action.

"I am shocked learning about the CBI rushing to arrest the Police Commissioner and subsequent developments in West Bengal. The country has faced similar kind of unconstitutional methods during the Emergency. Situation in WB is similar to that of the emergency days," Gowda said in a tweet.

In a chat with media editors on Monday, the Chief Minister described the midnight drama on Sunday as an "attack on a state's federal rights guaranteed by the Constitution." In a tweet later, Kumaraswamy said, "We stand with West Bengal CM."

Mamata had attended Kumaraswamy's swearing in ceremony in May last year. The Karnataka CM too had reciprocated by visiting West Bengal recently for her political rally where he praised her leadership qualities, and said she has all necessary qualities and leadership skills to run the country.
