JD (U) leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary elected as new speaker of Bihar assembly

The five-term MLA, who is considered close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, represents Sarairanjan assembly seat of Samastipur district.

PATNA: Senior Janata Dal (U) leader Vijay Kumar Choudhary has been unanimously elected as the new speaker of Bihar assembly.

The five-term MLA, who is considered close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, represents Sarairanjan assembly seat of Samastipur district.

Choudhary holds a Master of Arts degree from Patna University. His father and Congress leader Jagdish Choudhary was also a member of the state assembly in the past. He had resigned from his service in banking sector to join politics following the death of his father in 1982. He began his political career as a Congress leader and later he joined the JD (U).

He was also deputy chairman of the Bihar State Industrial Development Corporation
