Jayalalithaa to be accorded state funeral, Centre declares mourning

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening at 4.30 pm, and is currently being monitored by a team of experts, as per a statement issued by Apollo Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment over the past two months.

Here is a timeline of events that have taken place after she was admitted in the Apollo hospital in September, after complaining of fever and dehydration.

September 22, 2016: CM Jayalalithaa was admitted to Chennai’s Apollo Hospital after she complained of fever and dehydration.

September 25, 2016: Apollo rubbished all the rumours by declaring a official statement.

The statement said, "There have been rumours and conjectures circulated falsely in the social media about Honourable Chief Minister's health condition, stating that she will be taken abroad for treatment. These are totally false and baseless."

September 29, 2016: On this date, AIADMK had tweeted out an image of an Apollo statement, explaining that ‘Amma’ was recovering well, but will be kept under observation for a few more days.

October 6, 2016: In an elaborate health bulletin, Apollo hospital announced that her treatment regimen included continued respiratory support, nebulisation, drugs to decongest the lungs, antibiotics, nutrition, general nursing care and supportive therapy.

October 8, 2016: The hospital announced that Jayalalithaa was undergoing lung decongestion, as well as other ‘comprehensive measures’ and she will be under constant monitoring.

October 22, 2016: There was an update from the hospital, who pointed out that she was largely conscious and was able to sit up in her hospital bed.

The hospital also said that she is “interacting and progressing gradually."

November 13, 2016: Jayalalithaa released her first statement since she was hospitalised on September 22. It read, "I have taken rebirth because of people's prayers."

November 18, 2016: Chairman of Apollo hospitals Dr Prathap C Reddy said that she could breath normally and would be discharged anytime she wished.
