Jayalalithaa says diesel price hike a vestige of "wrong UPA policy,"
She wanted the Centre to determine petrol and diesel price by considering the price of imported crude and the domestic cost for its processing.

"The diesel price hike has disappointed the people who wanted growth through change (in regime)," Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.
Arguing that the hike announced by oil marketing companies (OMCs) was "not correct pricing," she wanted the BJP government to completely overhaul the pricing policy for petro products.
She wanted the Centre to determine petrol and diesel price by considering several factors including the price of imported crude and the domestic cost for its processing.
"This would help cut down the cost of petro products and tame price rise."
Urging the new dispensation at the Centre to rescind the authority delegated to OMCs to fix prices for petro products, she said this would help curb price rise which was due to the "wrong economic policies" of the previous UPA government.
Stating that the diesel price hike would affect all sections of people, particularly the poor and middle class, she appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene and withdraw the price hike.
Diesel prices were hiked yesterday by 50 paise a litre, excluding state levies, the second increase in rates in three weeks.
