Jaya lashes out at affidavit filed by Centre
Coming down heavily on the affidavit filed by the Centre in the Supreme Court, AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa on Friday said the union government had by its remarks, lost its credibility of being a secular government.
"The affidavit is an insult to the sentiments of crores of Hindus in the country. Religion is based on faith and the efforts to curb it cannot be accepted," she said.
Pointing out that the Ramayana was considered one of the oldest epics of the country, she said it was absurd to state that there was no evidence to prove the existence of Lord Ram and also that the Ramar Sethu bridge was not man made.
"Secularism means equal respect for all religions. But by insulting the sentiments of a particular religion, the Centre had lost its claim of being a secular government," she said.
The Centre should immediately withdraw its 'anti-Hindu' affidavit, which, she alleged, had hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindus all over the country.
