Jaya announces formation of youth brigades
AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced formation of youth and young women brigades in a bid to infuse young blood into the party.
Addressing the party general council here, she said separate brigades for young men and women would be formed in all villages, towns and corporations.
The members of the brigade would be helping poor and would interact with them on regular basis.
Each branch would have a minimum of 27 members, she said adding that only those who were in the age group of 18 to 25 would be allowed to become members of these brigades.
After 25, they would be considered members of MGR Youth Wing and Jayalalithaa Peravai of the party, she said.
She had also announced age ceiling for being the members of MGR Youth Wing and Peravai. Those who crossed 35 could not continue to be members of the youth wing and 40 as members of Peravai, she said. After that age, all would be considered regular members of AIADMK, she said.
Jayalalithaa's move comes in the wake of reports that the youth were being wooed by actor turned politician Vijaykant. The DMK, in December last, had its youth wing conference in a bid to woo the youth in the state.
