Jats disrupt Delhi-Mumbai rail traffic over reservation demand

Hundreds of Jats today disrupted railway traffic on the Mathura-Mumbai route to press for their reservation demands in government jobs under the other backward classes (OBC) category.

MATHURA: Hundreds of Jats today disrupted railway traffic on the Mathura-Mumbai route to press for their reservation demands in government jobs under the other backward classes (OBC) category.

"We will not leave the track until the government accept our demand of 27 per cent reservation in central jobs under the OBC category," Yashpal Malik of All India Jat Arakshan Samiti said.

Community members started to gather at the rail tracks after a public meeting in neighbouring Jajampatti village of Mathura-Bharatpur border

"The activists, who were holding a panchayat at Jajampatti village, at the end of meeting declared to go for blockade of rail traffic on Mathura-Mumbai route... Since they were not allowed to block the rail traffic in Mathura district area, they moved to nearby Bharatpur district of Rajasthan," additional district magistrate Avadhesh Tiwari said.

National Vice-President of Akhil Bhartiya Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti, Vikram Singh threatened of large-scale disruption of rail traffic if their demands are not met.
