NEW DELHI: Japanese financial behemoth Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation expressed its willingness to extend its support for the drought affected people in rural Maharashtra.

Head of Asia Pacific Division and Emerging Markets Business Division, Shosuke Mori conveyed the intention to participate in Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan (JSA) to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

SMBC, which received the commercial banking licence from the Reserve Bank in 2012 and established its first branch in New Delhi three years ago, is all set for expansion of its presence in India. The new branch will be in Mumbai.

“We look forward to be part of the financial hub of the country and continue to be a good corporate citizen,” Mori said. “With the state experiencing severe shortage of water, there is no better time for us to stand by the affected people” he added.
