KOLKATA: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe along with his wife Akie arrived here today on a day-long visit to the city.

He was received at the airport by Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee.

The visit might lead to an announcement for the proposed East-West Metro corridor project in the metropolis by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), official sources said.

The proposed corridor is to run between Howrah station and Salt Lake with a part of it under the Hooghly river.

Abe will visit the Tagore Museum and Netaji Bhavan before leaving for Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon.

The premier's wife will separately visit Mother Teresa's Home, Missionaries of Charity (MoC) and Sishu Bhavan.
