Japan offers Rs 6916 cr soft loan to India

Japan has extended Rs 6916 crore as soft loan to India for a clutch of core sector projects development during 2006-07.


NEW DELHI: Japan has extended Rs 6916 crore as soft loan to India for a clutch of core sector projects development during 2006-07.

An official news release said that Japan has supported eleven projects in power transmission, environment, forestry and water supply under the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA).

Japanese Ambassador Yasukuni Enoki and Joint Secretary in Finance Ministry Kumar Sanjay Krishna exchanged documents in this regard on Friday.

A major chunk of this loan is offered to India by Japan at concessional lending rate of 1.3 percent per annum.
