Jan Lokpal Bill: No breakthrough, third round of govt-Team Anna talks end

Third round of talks between govt & civil society activists on Lokpal Bill ended without any breakthrough. Next round of talks will be held tomorrow.

NEW DELHI: The third round of talks between the government and civil society activists on the Lokpal Bill ended without any breakthrough. The next round of talks will be held tomorrow.

"No progress was made in talks with government," Anna Hazare aid Prashant Bhushan said.

"It is unfortunate that we have to report that talks are back to square one. We are disappointed with today's meeting. We have to start again," Prashant Bhushan added.

"The government has gone back on some of concessions it promised to us in Tuesday's meeting," Arvind Kejriwal said.

"When I asked whether the government is contemplating a police action to forcefully feed Anna Hazare, the government representatives were not forthcoming," Kejriwal said.

The first round of talks was held on Tuesday night and the second round on Wednesday noon.

From the government side, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee lead the talks.

The civil society was represented at the talks by Arvind Kejriwal, senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan and former police officer Kiran Bedi.
