Jan Lokpal Bill: CCPA, Cong Core Group meets on Hazare issue

A meeting of the Congress Core Group, the party's highest policy-making body, followed the CCPA at the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence.

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) on Tuesday night discussed threadbare the issues that came up during the meeting between government and Anna Hazare team and the strategy to be adopted at tomorrow's all-party meet.

A meeting of the Congress Core Group, the party's highest policy-making body, followed the CCPA at the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence.

The Prime Minister convened the emergency CCPA meeting soon after Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee held three-hour long discussions with Hazare's key aides on the Lokpal issue.

Mukherjee apprised the CCPA about the deliberations he had with Team Hazare and the meeting discussed the pros and cons of the demands put forth by the civil society, sources said.

During the government-Hazare team meeting, the civil society activists insisted that the Jan Lokpal Bill should be passed by Parliament, without referring to Standing Committee, in this session, even if means extending the session by a few days.

Sources said the CCPA discussed the strategy to be adopted by the UPA at the all-party meeting tomorrow. There was a talk that Rahul Gandhi attended the Congress Core Group meeting but there was no confirmation.
