Jan Lokpal Bill: Anna Hazare skips India Gate, supporters left disappointed in rain
Over 300 Anna Hazare supporters who had gathered at the India Gate in anticipation of his visit were left disappointed and drenched in rain.
Soon after his associate Kiran Bedi made the announcement that Hazare will visit India Gate before heading off to Ramlila Ground, his supporters had started assembling at the site.
As the numbers swelled, patriotic slogans filled the air. Many swayed the national flags and even foreigners visiting the site seemed to have enjoyed the sight as most were busy clicking pictures.
Even the rains could not dampen the enthusiasm of the Anna supporters. Many had brought their umbrellas along and some policemen were seen sharing space with the demonstrators under it.
However, as the news came in that Hazare will not visit the India Gate, disappointment was visibly seen on many faces.
Even photo journalists who were hoping to get some perfect pictures of Anna with the magnificent iconic structure in the background were left disappointed.
"I really wanted to see him. I came from Gurgaon along with my friends. I would now go to the maidan for catching a glimpse of him," said Rani, a first-year college student, who led a group of boys and girls in shouting slogans supporting Anna.
"I really wanted to see him and express my support to his cause," said Anita, a middle-aged woman seeking directions to the Ramlila Grounds from a policeman.
