Jammu & Kashmir government agrees to impartial probe into murder of Kashmiri youth
NEW DELHI: The Jammu & Kashmir government on Friday agreed to an “impartial” inquiry into the recent killing of a Kashmiri youth in Srinagar. The decision comes a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined his healing touch policy, promising jobs, justice and peace to “misled” Kashmiri youth pelting stones at security forces.

With the Supreme Court urging the government to deal with the situation in a sensitive and “humane” manner, Attorney General (AG) Mukul Rohatgi on Friday agreed to an impartial probe.

“I am very keen we should go to the bottom of the case. We should have an impartial investigation,” he said in a change of stance before the Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Amitava Roy.

The bench then directed a post mortem of Shabir Ahmad Mir under direct supervision of principal district and sessions judge of Srinagar. The report will be submitted sealed in three weeks, with the next hearing on September 5.
