JAMMU: In order to prevent fatal road accidents, Jammu and Kashmir Police today advised general public, especially youth, to avoid excessive drinking and rash driving on the New Year's eve.

Stern action will be taken against people indulging in anti-public activities, especially two-wheeler riders, who perform dangerous stunts in public areas and arterial roads, a police spokesperson said.

"Though we have intensified patrolling and increased police visibility and presence in such areas, we would like citizens to take necessary precautionary measures to protect their lives and property especially during evening hours in order to prevent fatal road accidents and chain/purse snatching incidents", he added.

"The hoteliers are advised to get prior permission from police for hosting New Year parties which can be held from 6 PM on December 31st till 1 AM only," he added.

The spokesperson said that they have also been asked not to allow excessive drinking and obscene dance during New Year Celebration.

"The hotel bars will remain open till 12 AM on New Year's eve besides pub and bar owners are advised to keep trouble makers out," he added.

There will be no entry of trucks from any direction towards Jammu city from 8 PM on December 31 upto 4.00 AM on January 1, 2015, in the interest of general public, he added.
