Jammu and Kashmir parties in huddle before Prime Minister's meet

Political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have called for internal consultations ahead of their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on June 24.

The parties are gathering inputs from the ground and plan to discuss their agendas regarding the political situation in the Valley after August 5, 2019, when special status of J&K was abrogated and the state split into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the administration released senior People's Democratic Party (PDP) member and uncle of former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.


The PDP is meeting on Sunday to decide about the agenda for the meeting with the PM. "The political affairs committee of the party headed by Mehbooba Mufti is meeting on Sunday to chart the future course of action regarding the proposed meeting in Delhi," said the party's chief spokesman Suhail Bukhari.

A senior National Conference leader said the party leader and former chief minister of J&K Farooq Abdullah has also received the invitation for the meeting in Delhi. Abdullah had told media persons that he would convene a party meeting after he gets a formal invitation from the Centre.

Abdullah, the head of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), a grouping of regional parties formed in October 2020 to strive for restoration of special status and statehood of J&K, had recently stated that "all doors of engagement with New Delhi are open".
