Jammu and Kashmir: Government with PDP best, says BJP's Nirmal Singh

SRINAGAR: As political uncertainty continues in Jammu and Kashmir, former deputy chief minister and BJP leader Nirmal Singh has said that his party was committed to implementation of the Agenda of Alliance (AoA) between the BJP and the PDP coalition.

However, Singh added that PDP should take the first step on government formation to end the political stalemate in the state, which in his view would happen soon. "Agenda of Alliance was formed and agreed upon after consensus at the level of prime minister. Isn’t that the assurance? We are committed to it," Singh, told ET.

According to Singh, he doesn’t find any reason or indication for, "PDP not forming government with the BJP again. Rajnath Singhji and Gadkariji have already conveyed and assured PDP of complete support from central government. And if there is something more to be done, it will be talked about with seniors in New Delhi. But let the process start."

After the death of Mufti Sayeed, the PDP too has referred to AoA, as a "sacred document and demanded its unconditional implementation in good faith." Mehbooba is convening another meeting of legislatures and party district presidents, on January 31, ostensibly for the party’s membership drive, but government formation is likely to be discussed as well. Mehbooba Mufti’s silence and inaction has triggered political conspiracies that has unnerved BJP.
