JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir government today said it has provided insurance cover to 44,714 weavers in the handloom sector in the state

As many as 44,714 weavers have been covered under health insurance scheme and Mahatma Gandhi Banker Bima Yojana in the state, Minister of State for Industries Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo informed the Assembly in a written reply to the question of Congress member Indu Pawar.

He said that 43,208 weavers have been covered under health insurance scheme while 1,506 weavers have been covered under Mahatma Gandhi Banker Bima Yojana.

Kitchloo further said that 20,298 handloom units are in operation in the state where 10,700 women entrepreneurs are engaged in this sector.

The Minister said that 100 training centres have been set up for providing training in craft and trade in this sector.
