Jammu and Kashmir government distributes Rs 106 crre under welfare schemes

The Jammu and Kashmir government has distributed Rs 106 crore among 2.86 lakh beneficiaries under various welfare schemes including monthly pension.

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has distributed Rs 106 crore among 2.86 lakh beneficiaries under various welfare schemes including monthly pension to elderly people, women in distress and physically challenged persons during the current financial year in the Valley.

"An amount of Rs 106 crore has been provided to beneficiaries under various schemes in the valley during the current financial year," an official spokesman said after a review meeting chaired by Director Social Welfare (Kashmir) Khawaja Bashir Ahmed Bhat here yesterday.

The spokesman said the department is running 15 orphanages in the Valley in which around 650 inmates, both boys and girls, get free boarding, lodging, food and education facility up to secondary level.
