Jaitapur nuclear plant will be safest in the country: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan

"The 9,900 MW nuclear power plant coming up in Jaitapur will be the safest (in the country)," Chavan said, when asked about the status of the project.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today claimed that Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project in the coastal Ratnagiri district -- opposed by local organisations and Shiv Sena -- will be "the safest" nuclear plant in the country.

"The 9,900 MW nuclear power plant coming up in Jaitapur will be the safest (in the country)," Chavan said, when asked about the status of the project.

Revenue Department had acquired the land for the project and the Centre was in talks with the French nuclear engineering firm AREVA, which has been assigned contract of the project, over the safety revaluation, he added.
