Jairam objects to river interlinking

NEW DELHI: The long-standing proposal of interlinking of rivers seems to have found its way back on the agenda.

On Monday, the minister of state for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh reiterated his reservations about such a project. ���Interlinking of rivers will be a human, ecological and economic disaster,��� Mr Ramesh said. ���As of now the interlinking projects that is being implemented are the Ken-Betwa link, even that is a challenge, and the Godavari-Krishna link,��� he said.

In July, water resources minister Pawan Bansal informed Parliament that 30 river links had been identified for interlinking.
