Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who earlier refused to accept his resignation letter on December 12, 2014 ,accepted his resignation on Wednesday.

KOLKATA: Jailed minister of Mamata Banerjee 's cabinet Madan Mitra resigned from his post today . Despite his arrest in Saradha scam, Mitra was continuing as the transport and sports minister of the state.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who earlier refused to accept his resignation letter on December 12, 2014 ,accepted his resignation on Wednesday. Mitra submitted his resignation to Banerjee on December 12 when he was summoned by CBI. Eventually, he was arrested the same day.

The development came after Mitra's lawyer failed to convince the court that his client was not "influential ".

The Case in connection with Mitra's bail cancellation is pending with High Court and the court is likely to deliver its judgement tomorrow . Mitra is at present under " house arrest" in connection with his alleged involvement in saradha financial scam. According to sources, Mitra's resignation has been forwarded to Governor.
