GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Government on Wednesday appointed Jagruti Pandya as the Chairperson for Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Jagruti Pandya, the widow of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya had contested against BJP from Ellisbridge constituency from Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) floated by former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel.

Pandya told ET that she would like to concentrate on the responsibility entrusted on her at the moment. Asked about her plans for public life, she said that “these things will shape up in days to come. For now I would want to see how I can contribute to the position I am entrusted with.”

Haren Pandya, the former MoS home in Narendra Modi government was killed in March 2003 while he had gone for a morning walk. Pandya had fallen out with the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi after he had declined to vacate Ellisbridge seat for Narendra Modi in 2002 and subsequently deposed before the Citizen’s Tribunal in the wake of 2002 riots.
