Jagdish Mukhi appointed pro-tem Speaker of Delhi Assembly

Jagdish Mukhi is a former minister of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation and Higher Education in the Delhi government.

NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader and MLA Jagdish Mukhi was today appointed pro-tem Speaker of Delhi Assembly.

The appointment was made by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. Mukhi is a former minister of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation and Higher Education in the Delhi government.

He will take oath of the office at the LG house tomorrow. As per the tradition, the LG will administer oath to the senior most MLA for pro-tem speaker and the latter will then administer oath to all the elected MLAs in the Assembly.

Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government will seek a vote of confidence on January 3 on the floor of Delhi Assembly.

Mukhi will work as an acting Speaker till the appointment of a full-time Speaker of the House.
