NEW DELHI: Former Assam DGP J N Choudhury has taken over as the new chief of the federal counter-terror force of the country - the National Security Guard (NSG).

Choudhury, a 1978-batch IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will head the 'black cat' commandos force which renders counter-terror, counter-hijack and VVIP security tasks, till May next year which is his superannuation time.

A Masters in Economics from the Delhi University, the officer has just relinquished charge as the Assam Police chief and has served a number of years in the Intelligence Bureau before being nominated as the 28th NSG Director General.

Senior IPS officer Arvind Ranjan was till now handling the NSG top charge before he was made the CISF DG.
