J J Singh elected president of Gymkhana Club
Army chief Gen J J Singh was elected unopposed as the president of capital's elite Gymkhana Club on Saturday, after his contender from Air Force decided to withdraw from the contest following a compromise.
Singh will take over as the president of the club tomorrow, former RA&W chief and club president A S Dulat told agencies.
The run up to the election saw a high-voltage campaign by the camp's of Singh and Western Air Commander Air Marshall P S Alhuwaliah, who decided to withdraw from contest on the last minute following a compromise.
According to the compromise arrived at between both the camps, Gymkhana sources said, Singh and Alhuwaliah had agreed to share the President post for one year each.
The prestigious club's members include top services officers, country's topmost bureaucrats and others.
