NEW DELHI: A meme on PM Narendra Modi put out by the official twitter handle of the Indian Youth Congress’ online magazine ‘Yuvadesh’ on Tuesday boomeranged on the Congress after Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani questioned it. The meme showed Modi in conversation with US president Donald Trump and British PM Theresa May. Speech bubbles had Trump correcting Modi’s pronunciation of ‘meme’ and May adding that he “go sell tea”.

Rupani asked if Rahul Gandhi approved of it. “This blatantly classist and anti-poor tweet by the Youth Congress shows their mindset towards India’s poor. Does Crown Prince @OfficeOfRG support this?” the CM tweeted.

The tweet was later deleted from the IYC handle. The organisation claimed that it was not responsible for the tweet. Youth Congress national president Amarinder Singh Raja said the Yuvadesh handle was not handled by his outfit but some volunteers and offered an apology.
-“Although @Yuvadesh is being run by volunteers and not by @iyc, we do not approve of such humour and apologise. Despite differences with the BJP & having suffered everyday abuse from their leaders, we respect the prime minister & all political opponents,” he tweeted.
