It's Varun venom
In a development that signals more trouble for BJP Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi, the Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad has confirmed that the CD of the anti-Muslim hate speeches, made by Mr Gandhi during the election campaign, was not doctored.
The FSL report, which was received by police on Saturday, has confirmed that the voice in the tapes is that of Varun Gandhi and the CD is not doctored, agency reports from Pilibhit quoting police officer Mani Ram Rao said. Mr Rao is investigating the cases lodged against Mr Gandhi for his speeches at public meetings on March 7 and 8. Findings of the FSL report were also confirmed by Pilibhit District Magistrate Ajay Chauhan. Though I have not seen the report yet, but I have been told that the FSL had said that the voice contained in the tape is that of Varun Gandhi, he said.
Mr Gandhi had claimed that the CD was doctored and initially refused to give his voice samples for forensic examination. His stand on the CD being doctored was backed by the BJP.
Mr Gandhi has six FIRs registered against him in connection with the hate speeches and is currently out on bail. His speeches had attracted a reprimand from the Election Commission, which even asked the BJP not to field him in the Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP chose to remain silent on reports about the FSL findings. However, Mr Gandhis mother Maneka Gandhi, who defended her son, said the forensic reports were one-sided version. The entire tape is doctored, words have been interchanged...the forensic report is a one-sided version, Ms Gandhi said.
