It’s the wettest September in Delhi since 1945

September has so far seen only six days, including Thursday, when no rain was recorded at Safdarjung observatory.

NEW DELHI: After a gap of about five days, there was finally some relief in store for Delhiites. Heavy showers on Wednesday night gave way to a sunny morning. While it did become cloudy later in the day, leading to cool afternoon, no rain was recorded in the city.

September has so far seen only six days, including Thursday, when no rain was recorded at Safdarjung observatory. Already, the city has seen 329.9 mm rain, making it the fifth wettest September in the past 110 years and the wettest since 1945.

Based on 24-hour rainfall calculated till 8.30am on Thursday, Narela was the wettest area in Delhi with 154mm rainfall. Close behind were Pitampura and Palam with 77mm and 73.4mm, rainfall respectively.

So far this monsoon season, New Delhi and central Delhi regions have seen the best rain with a surplus of 42% and 40%, respectively. The worst off were northwest and northeast districts with a deficiency of 14% and 6% respectively.
