The Congress said the Delhi Police chargesheet was an exercise aimed at 'Beti darao, Brij Bhushan bachao' (scare the girl child, save Brij Bhushan) to shield the BJP MP, and deny justice to the women wrestlers who accused him of molesting them.

The opposition party also asked why the Delhi Police never arrested Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh when one of the wrestlers had levelled charges against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which warrants immediate arrest, and lamented that the alleged victim was pressured by the powers that be to withdraw the charges.

Pointing out that Delhi Police had not only refused to file an FIR on the complaints of the wrestlers against Singh until the Supreme Court directed it do so but it also tried to "attack the protestors in the night" , Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, "Now the same Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet, of which 500 odd pages were only arguing why POCSO charges could not have been filed (against Singh)."
