This is abuse of executive power: Rahul Gandhi on repeal of Article 370
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that the nation is "made by its people, not plots of land".
The Centre yesterday announced its decision to make Article 370 ineffective and bifurcation of the state of J&K into two Union territories, sparking a huge debate all over the country. However, the Gandhi scion was conspicuously maintained silence on the issue.
Ending all speculations, Rahul Gandhi today tweeted: "National integration isn’t furthered by unilaterally tearing apart J&K, imprisoning elected representatives and violating our Constitution. This nation is made by its people, not plots of land."
"This abuse of executive power has grave implications for our national security," Rahul added.
A meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC) over the Jammu and Kashmir issue is scheduled to be held later today.
There is a difference of opinion in the party on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Many leaders are of the opinion that the party should not go against the sentiment of people, while other leaders are of the view that the party should not change its stance, which was also an election promise during the Lok Sabha elections, as per news wire agency ANI.
Yesterday, the resolution removing the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 was approved by the Rajya Sabha.
