A 24-year-old IT professional was found dead in her rented accommodation in south-east Delhi in mysterious circumstances with police suspecting that she could be raped and murdered.

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old IT professional was on Thursday found dead in her rented accommodation in south-east Delhi in mysterious circumstances with police suspecting that she could be raped and murdered.

Veerpal Kaur, hailing from Punjab's Moga district, was not seen in public since Tuesday despite her company officials attempts to contact her, a senior police official said.

The body of Kaur, an assistant manager in an IT company, was found by Manoharlal Gupta, her landlord, at her rented accommodation on the fourth floor of DDA flats in J-I Block of Kalkaji this morning. She was staying alone.

"The company officials were calling Kaur on her mobile phone but there was no response. They decided to visit her today," the official said.

The incident came to light when the landlord went to her flat and found that the door was locked from outside but a foul smell was emanating from it.

"They broke open the door only to find the decomposed body of the woman," the official said.
