It is 'unfortunate' that Congress and Trinamool are contesting each other: Abijit Mukherjee
Congress leader and son of FM Pranab Mukherjee, Abijit Mukherjee said it was 'unfortunate' that his party and ally Trinamool are fighting each other.
"It is unfortunate that this time the two parties are fighting against each other. It is not clear who will gain from the division of votes," Mukherjee, the Congress MLA from Nalhati in Birbhum district, said while campaigning for party candidates for the Nalhati municipality elections.
Asked whether the allies would join hands to form the civic board in Nalhati if none of them got majority, he said "this will depend on the situation after the declaration of results."
Asked about the personal attack on him by the Trinamool Congress leaders during the election campaign he said, "Everybody saw their behaviour. They behaved according to their taste and education. I am not bothered."
The Congress and Trinamool Congress are fighting each in all the 15 wards of the municipality.
In the last civic body election, the Congress had bagged 11 of the 15 seats.
But after the Lok Sabha election nine Congress councillors including Chairman Biplob Ojha joined the Trinamool Congress and the power of the civic body was transferred to it.
