It is not possible for industry to acquire land on its own:Sen
It may not always be possible for private firms to acquire land on their own for large industrial projects and the state government could facilitate the process if need be, West Bengal Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said on Monday.
Industrialisation has to take place and land has to be taken for it. But, both the state and the industry have a role and responsibility to include the affected people who lose their livelihood in the process, he said.
Moreover, there is no fool-proof development model that can offer 100 per cent inclusive growth and does not generate debate and controversies, Sen said.
"However, that does not mean we should not attempt for inclusive growth as far as possible for development," Sen said at the 22nd state conference of CPI(M) while referring to industrialisation in the state.
Problems and limitations to each model exist either due to global policies or competition and the government has to function under the conditions.
"I am not happy as I am not able to work for development, the way I desire, but compulsions due to the global scenario cannot be ignored," Sen said, adding that the government aimed to minimise the pain of the people affected.
"But, it is not always possible to eliminate the problems of the affected people."
The state should take the opportunity of the current wave of industrialisation instead of debating on the best model of development, he said.
Referring to the state government's role in setting up of industries by the private sector, he said it was not possible for the industry to acquire land for large projects by negotiations as it would not be viable.
