NEW DELHI: Uniform guidelines should be issued to airlines on the carriage of electronic items by passengers as different airlines were going by different norms, creating confusion and chaos at airports, a Trinamool Congress member said today.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Vivek Gupta said "every day different guidelines are issued by different airlines. Some airlines say you can take tablet, while some say you can take it only in check-in bags. There are no uniform guidelines issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation."

Airlines have created "utter chaos" at the airports, he said and demanded a centralised norm so that there is no confusion among passengers on this issue.

Gupta also informed the House that there was a shortage of 2,500 CISF staff at airports and as many as 26 highly sensitive airports were still not covered by CISF security.
